The Holy Father Francis has accepted the resignation from the office of auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Melbourne, Australia, presented by H.E. Msgr. Peter John Elliott.

 

Appointment of archbishop of Manfredonia-Vieste-San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy

The Pope has appointed as archbishop of Manfredonia-Vieste-San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy, the Rev. Fr. Franco Moscone, C.R.S., currently prepositor general of the Clerics Regular of Somasca.

The Rev. Fr. Franco Moscone, C.R.S., was born in Alba, province of Cuneo and diocese of Alba, on 10 December 1957. After his high school examinations he entered the seminary of the Ligure Piemontese province of the Clerics Regular of Somasca, and carried out his aspirantate in the House of San Mauro Torinese, the novitiate in Somasca, the year of magisterium in the Community of the Colegio San Fermín of Caldas de Reis, Spain, and the post-novitiate in Rome, in the House of Sant’Alessio all’Aventino.

He carried out his theological studies in Rome, at the Pontifical Athenaeum of Saint Anselm, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree.

He gave his religious vows on 26 September 1982 and was ordained a priest on 16 June 1984 in Alba.

In 1983 he was animator of Seminarians in San Mauro Torinese. In 1991 he obtained a degree in letters from the University of Turin.

In 1992 he assumed the role of teacher and animator of university staff and students at the Collegio Emiliani of Genoa-Nervi.

In 1995 he was sent to Toruń in Poland, to initiate the foundation in that country. On 1 September 1995 he became superior of the House of Toruń, confirmed in 1996 and in 1999, as well as provincial delegate of Poland, a role confirmed in 1998.

In 2000 he was appointed as superior of the Community of the Collegio Emiliani of Genoa-Nervi, confirmed in 2002. In 2002 he was elected as provincial vicar of the Ligure-Piemontese Province. In 2005 he was elected as vicar general and first advisor.

In 2008 he was elected as prepositor general of the Congregation, and re-elected in 2011 and in 2017.
