Appointment of bishop of the diocese of Guadix, Spain
The Holy Father has appointed the Rev. Francisco Jesús Orozco Mengíbar, vicar general of Córdoba, Spain, as bishop of the diocese of Guadix, Spain.

H.E. Msgr. Francisco Jesús Orozco Mengíbar was born on 23 April 1970 in Villafranca di Córdoba. After his ecclesiastical studies in the Seminary of Córdoba he obtained a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Pontifical “Comillas” University in Madrid. He was ordained a priest on 9 July 1995. He was sent to Rome in 1998 to continue his studies at the Pontifical Lateran University, where he obtained a licentiate in fundamental theology (1998-2000) and a doctorate (2003).
After priestly ordination he held various offices in the diocese of Córdoba: parish vicar of San Francesco Solano in Montilla and professor of liturgy in the Seminary (1995-1996); diocesan delegate for youth pastoral ministry (1996-1998); vice-rector of the minor seminary of Córdoba and chaplain of the Monastery of the Sacred Heart (2003-2007). In 2007 he was appointed as episcopal vicar of La Campiña, parish priest of various parishes, rector of the Shrine of Mary Most Holy of Araceli, member of the presbyteral council, secretary and member of the college of consultors, professor of fundamental theology in the “San Pelagio” Major Seminary and in the “Beata Victoria Díez” Higher Institute of Religious Sciences. Since 2008 he has served as canon of the Cathedral and since 2014, vicar general. Aside from Spanish he speaks Italian, and knows English, French and German.
