Appointment of the Substitute for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State
The Holy Father Francis has appointed as Substitute for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State H.E. Msgr. Edgar Peña Parra, titular archbishop of Telepte, currently apostolic nuncio in Mozambique.
He will take office on 15 October.

H.E. Msgr. Edgar Peña Parra was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, on 6 March 1960. Following his priestly ordination, which took place on 23 August 1985, he was incardinated in the diocese of Maracaibo. He graduated in canon law. He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on 1 April 1993, and subsequently served in the papal representations in Kenya and Yugoslavia, in the United Nations Office in Geneva, and in the apostolic nunciatures in South Africa, Honduras and Mexico. He was appointed as titular archbishop of Telepte on 8 January 2011, and received episcopal ordination on 5 February 2011, holding the office of apostolic nuncio in Pakistan from 2001 to 2014 and apostolic nuncio in Mozambique from 21 February 2015.
He knows the following languages: Spanish, Italian, English, French, Portuguese and Serbo-Croatian.
