Resignation of bishop prelate of Mixes, Mexico, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the prelature of Mixes, Mexico, presented by H.E. Msgr. Héctor Guerrero Córdova, S.D.B.

The Pope has appointed as bishop prelate of Mixes, Mexico, H.E. Msgr. Salvador Cleofás Murguía Medina, S.D.B., formator at the Directorate of the Salesians in Rome.

H.E. Msgr. Salvador Cleofás Murguía Medina, S.D.B.

H.E. Msgr. Murguía Medina was born in León on 25 September 1953. He attended courses in philosophy and theology at the Salesian seminary of Tlaquepaque.

He obtained a licentiate in educación media in the area of educational psychology, and a licentiate in spiritual theology at the Salesian University in Rome. In addition, he took a postgraduate course in spiritual theology in Berkeley, United States of America.

He was ordained a priest on 11 December 1982. He has held the pastoral roles of director and spiritual director of the Salesian Minor Seminary, director of the Salesian Institute of Higher Studies, director and Master of Novices in the Chulavista Novitiate, provincial of the North Mexico Province and director of the Provincial House in Guadalajara.

Since 2015 he has been working in Rome as delegate for Latin America at the Office for Formation of the General Direction of the Salesian Congregation.

 

Appointment of bishop of Salina, United States of America

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Salina, United States of America, Msgr. Gerald L. Vincke, of the clergy of the diocese of Lansing, currently pastor of the “Holy Family” parish.

H.E. Msgr. Gerald L. Vincke

H.E. Msgr. Gerald L. Vincke was born on 9 July 1964 in Saginaw, Michigan.

He obtained a bachelor’s degree in public relations from the “Ferris State College” in Big Rapids (1985-1986). He carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the Thomas More College in Crestview and the Athenaeum Seminary in Cincinnati. In 2015 he obtained a licentiate in spirituality from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome.

He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Lansing on 12 June 1999.

Since ordination he has served as deputy priest of the “Saint Thomas the Apostle” parish in Anne Arbor (1999-2001), director of the Bethany House Youth Retreat Center in Lansing (2001-2004), diocesan director of vocations and seminarians ( 2003-2010), diocesan director of formation for priests, seminarians and laity (2006-2010), spiritual director of the Pontifical North American College in Rome (2010-2015) and member of the presbyteral council and of the college of consultors. In 2012 he was named chaplain of His Holiness, and in 2016 Missionary of Mercy.

Since 2015 he has been parish priest of the “Holy Family” parish at Grand Blanc.

 

Appointment of auxiliary of Katowice, Poland

The Holy Father has appointed auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Katowice, Poland, H.E. Msgr. Grzegorz Olszowski, of the clergy of the same archdiocese, until now parish priest of the “Saint Anthony of Padua” parish in Rybnik, assigning him the head office of Roga.

H.E. Msgr. Grzegorz Olszowski was born on 15 February 1967 in Mikołów. After his graduation examinations in 1987 he began his studies at the Faculty of Mining Technologies of the Silesian Polytechnic University in Gliwice. After two years, interrupting his university studies, he was admitted to the major seminary in Katowice and on 13 May 1995 he was ordained a priest for the same archdiocese.

Since priestly ordination he has held the following positions: assistant priest in the Parish of Saint Edvige in Rybnik (1995-1999); personal secretary to the archbishop of Katowice (1999-2007), H.E. Msgr. Damian Zimoń (1999-2007); chancellor of the archiepiscopal Curia (2007-2012); vicar general and moderator of the Curia (2012-2014). Since 2014 he is parish priest of the Saint Anthony of Padua parish in Rybnik.

In 1998 he obtained a licentiate and in 2007 a doctorate in pastoral theology. He speaks German and has studied Italian and English.

Currently, Msgr. Olszowski is also a member of the college of consultors and of the presbyteral council.
