Appointment of bishop of Porto, Portugal

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Porto, Portugal, H.E. Msgr. Manuel da Silva Rodrigues Linda, currently military ordinary for Portugal.

H.E. Msgr. Manuel da Silva Rodrigues Linda

H.E. Msgr. Manuel da Silva Rodrigues Linda was born on 15 April 1956 in Paus, in the diocese of Lamego.

He attended the Lamego Seminary for theological studies. He obtained three licentiates: in humanistic disciplines at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Catholic University of Braga; in theology at the Faculty of Porto; and in moral theology at the Alphonsian Academy in Rome. He also obtained a doctorate in moral theology at the Comillas University in Madrid.

He was ordained a priest on 10 June 1981, and incardinated in the diocese of Vila Real. As a priest he has held the following positions: parish priest, assistant of Catholic Action, lecturer in the seminary, member of the diocesan “Life Project” Commission; rector of the seminary and director of the Catholic Cultural Centre of the diocese; episcopal vicar for culture.

On 20 September 2009 he was appointed auxiliary bishop of Braga, and on 10 October 2013 he was appointed military ordinary for Portugal.
