Resignation of bishop of Nelson, Canada, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Nelson, Canada, presented by H.E. Msgr. John Corriveau, O.F.M., Cap.

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Nelson, Canada, H.E. Msgr. Gregory Bittman, currently titular bishop of Calderria and auxiliary of Edmonton.

H.E. Msgr. Gregory Bittman

H.E. Msgr. Gregory Bittman was born on 5 March 1961 in Hamilton, Ontario. He carried out his initial formation at the Benedictine Seminary of Christ the King in Mission, British Colombia, where he obtained a Master of Divinity. He later worked at the Edmonton hospital as a nurse. Continuing his studies, he obtained a licentiate in canon law from the Catholic University of America.

He was ordained a priest on 15 August 1996.

Since ordination, he has held the following positions: administrator of the Sacred Heart Parish of Gibbons (1996-1997); parish priest of Our Lady of the Prairies of Daysland (1997-1999); parish priest of Christ King in Settler, and of Our Lady of Grace in Castor (1999-2000); parish priest of Saint Agnes and Saint Anthony (2000-2001); chancellor of the archdiocese of Edmonton and member of the College of Consultors (2000). In 2009 he was appointed as judicial vicar.

He was elected as titular bishop of Calderria and auxiliary of Edmonton on 14 July 2012, and was consecrated on the following 3 September.
