The Holy Father has appointed:
Fr. Antonio Gómez Cantero as bishop of Teruel y Albarracín (area 11,867, population 91,200, Catholics 89,800, priests 113, religious 114), Spain. The bishop-elect was born in 1956 in Quijas, and was ordained a priest in 1981. He holds a licentiate in biblical theology from the Institut Catholique of Paris, and has served in a number of pastoral roles including parish vicar and diocesan assistant of the “Movimiento Junior A.C.”, diocesan delegate for youth and vocational pastoral ministry, formator at the major seminary, international advisor for MIDADEN (International Movement for Childhood Pastoral Ministry), rector of the minor seminary, rector of the major seminary, parish priest, moderator of the Curia and diocesan administrator. He is currently vicar general of Palencia, Spain.
Bishop George Frendo, O.P., as metropolitan archbishop of Tiranë-Durrës (area 2,263, population 1,204,000, Catholics 135,300, priests 35, religious 137), Albania. Bishop Frendo is currently auxiliary of the same archdiocese.
