The Holy Father has appointed:

- Msgr. Giovanni Accolla as metropolitan archbishop of Messina-Lipari-Santa Lucia del Mela (area 1,521, population 496,018, Catholics 494,000, priests 360, permanent deacons 82, religious 617), Italy. The archbishop-elect was born in 1951 in Siracusa, Italy and was ordained a priest in 1977. He studied theology at the archiepiscopal seminary of Siracusa and has served in a number of pastoral and administrative roles, including cooperator vicar in the Cathedral parish, official of the Curia, diocesan bursar, director of Caritas, and bursar of the St. Paul Theological Study of Catania. He is currently pastor of the San Giacomo ai Miracoli parish in Ortigia, president of the Sant’Angela Merici Foundation, member of the college of consulters, director of the office of Architectural Heritage and Buildings of Worship.

- Msgr. Giuseppe Giuliano as bishop of Lucera-Troia (area 1,336, population 67,400, Catholics 66,200, priests 78, permanent deacons 7, religious 52), Italy. The bishop-elect was born in 1951 in Naples, Italy and was ordained a priest in 1982. He holds a licentiate in moral theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University and has served in various pastoral and administrative roles, including special secretary to Bishop Giuseppe Costanzo, diocesan assistant in the Youth Sector of Catholic Action, diocesan head of youth pastoral ministry, canon of the Cathedral Chapter, director of the “G. Duns Scoto” Higher Institute of Religious Sciences (ISSR), rector of the Episcopal Seminary and director of the Diocesan Vocations Centre, national assistant of Youth Catholic Action and director of the diocesan catechistic office. He was named Chaplain of His Holiness in 2000. He is currently pastor of the San Giorgio in Somma Vesuviana, diocesan spiritual assistant for Catholic Doctors, and lecturer in fundamental moral theology at the ISSR in Nola.

- Msgr. Calogero Marino as bishop of Savona-Noli (area 394, population 155,000, Catholics 152,000, priest 97, permanent deacons 9, religious 389), Italy. The bishop-elect was born in 1955 in Brescia, Italy and was ordained a priest in 1982. He holds a degree in law from the University of Genoa, and a degree in canon law from the Pontifical Lateran University, and during the course of his ministry has served as special secretary to Bishop Daniele Ferrari and Bishop Alberto M. Careggio; spiritual assistant of the “Missionaries of the Regality of Our Lord Jesus Christ” and rector of the diocesan seminary. He was named Chaplain of His Holiness in 1995. He is currently pastor of the Santa Maria Madre della Chiesa parish in Lavagna, diocesan assistant of Catholic Action, diocesan judicial vicar, judicial vicar at the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Region of Liguria, and vicar general of the diocese of Chiavari. He succeeds Bishop Vittorio Lupi, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same diocese was accepted by the Holy Father.
