The Holy Father has appointed Fr. Alberto S. Uy as bishop of Tagbilaran (area 1,734, population 953,078, Catholics 750,959, priests 141, religious 174), Philippines. The bishop-elect was born in 1966 in Ubay, Philippines and was ordained a priest in 1993. He studied philosophy at the Immaculate Heart of Mary seminary of Tagbilaran City and theology at the St. John Mary Vianney Theological seminary of Cagayan de Oro City, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in theology and a master’s degree in pastoral ministry. He also holds a licentiate in sacred theology from the Loyola School of Theology in Quezon City. He has served in a number of pastoral roles in the diocese of Talibon including parish vicar, dean of seminarians at the Immaculate Heart of Mary seminary of Tagbilaran City; and vice-rector of the St. John Mary Vianney theological seminary in Cagayan de Oro City. He is currently pastor of the St. Michael the Archangel parish, Jagna, Bohol and Episcopal vicar for the clergy of the diocese of Talibon. He succeeds Bishop Leonardo Y. Medroso, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same diocese was accepted by the Holy Father.
