The Holy Father has appointed Msgr. Robert M. Coerver as bishop of Lubbock (area 60,532, population 517,200, Catholics 137,800, priests 54, permanent deacons 65, religious 13),U.S.A. The bishop-elect was born in Dallas, U.S.A., in 1954, and was ordained a priest in 1980. He holds a licentiate in spiritual theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome, and a master’s degree in “Counselling and guidance” from the East Texas State University, now “Texa A&M Commerce”. He has served in a number of pastoral roles including parish vicar, director of spiritual formation in the Holy Trinity Seminary, director of formation of permanent deacons, diocesan Censor Librorum, diocesan director for the continuing formation of the clergy, parish priest, vicar forane, diocesan consulter and member of the presbyteral council. He is currently pastor of the Santa Rita parish in Dallas. He succeeds Bishop Plácido Rodríguez, C.M.F.
