Vatican City, 28 May 2016 – The Holy Father has:
- appointed Fr. Paul Horan, O. Carm., as bishop of Mutare (area 32,202, population 2,272,000, Catholics 226,700, priests 57, religious 170), Zimbabwe. The bishop-elect was born in Drangan, Ireland in 1962, gave his religious vows in 1995 and was ordained a priest in 1997. He holds a Master of Arts in spiritual theology from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and transferred to Zimbabwe as a missionary in 2001, where he has served in a number of roles including director of postulants and subsequently director of novices of the Carmelite Fathers in Rusape, Mutare. He is currently director of the Kriste Mambo Catholic school in Rusape. He succeeds Bishop Alexio Churu Muchabaiwa, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same diocese upon reaching the age limit was accepted by the Holy Father.
