Vatican City, 15 March 2016 – The Holy Father has:
- accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Angra, Portugal, presented by Bishop Antonio de Sousa Braga, S.C.I., upon reaching the age limit. He is succeeded by Bishop Joao Evangelista Pimentel Lavrador, coadjutor of the same diocese.
- erected the new diocese of Kumba (area 11,431, population 563,988, Catholics 205,491, priests 38, religious 44), Cameroon, with territory taken from the diocese of Buea, making it a suffragan of the metropolitan see of Bamenda. He has appointed Bishop Agapitus Enuyehnyoh Nfon, auxiliary of Bamenda, as the first bishop of the new diocese.
- appointed Rev. Msgr. Emmanuel Abbo as bishop of Ngaoundéré (area 64,930, population 1,015,622, Catholics 43,776, priests 36, permanent deacons 10, religious 96), Cameroon. The bishop-elect was born in Mbe, Cameroon in 1969 and was ordained a priest in 2000. He holds a licentiate in Management Science (Business Administration) at the Catholic University of Central Africa, Cameroon. He has served in a number of pastoral and administrative roles in the diocese of Ngaoundéré, including parish vicar for the Cathedral, parish priest, diocesan secretary for education, bursar, director of the Pontifical Missionary Works, diocesan director of Caritas, head of diocesan economic administration and episcopal vicar. He is currently apostolic administrator of the same diocese.
