Resignation and appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Potenza-Muro Lucano-Marsico Nuovo, Italy

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Potenza-Muro Lucano-Marsico Nuovo, Italy, presented by Archbishop Salvatore Ligorio.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Davide Carbonaro, O.M.D., parish priest of Santa Maria in Portico in Campitelli in Rome, as metropolitan archbishop of Potenza-Muro Lucano-Marsico Nuovo, Italy.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Davide Carbonaro, O.M.D., was born on 1 January 1967 in Rosolini, Siracusa, in the diocese of Noto. He entered the Order of Clerics Regular of the Mother of God, and gave his first vows in 1988. He subsequently studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he was awarded a licentiate in biblical theology. On 2 February 1992 he gave his solemn vows in Rome, and on 3 October 1992 he was ordained a priest at Santa Maria in Portico in Campitelli in Rome. He attended the XXI Studium of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.

He has held the following offices: vocational promoter in the youth and vocational pastoral centre of his Order in the Community of Santa Maria in Portico in Naples (1993-1995); parish priest of Santa Maria in Portico in Campitelli in Rome (1995-2004); head of youth pastoral care of the diocese of Rome for the Central Sector (1997-2004); member of the Commission for Ecumenical and Interreligious Dialogue of the diocese of Rome (1999-2006); rector of the community and the College of the O.M.D. in Campitelli (2001-2004); parish vicar of San Giovanni Leonardi in Rome and rector of the Casa di San Giovanni Leonardi in Rome (2004-2007); since 2004, general archivist, postulator general and secretary of the O.M.D. Study Centre; parish priest of Santa Maria in Portico in Campitelli in Rome; counsellor general and secretary general of the O.M.D. (2010-2016); rector of the O.M.D. International Study House in Rome (2010-2017); since 2015, member of the Presbyteral Council of the diocese of Rome; and since 2017, spiritual assistant of the Rome ACLI.

Since 2020 he has served as parish priest of  Santa Maria in Portico in Campitelli in Rome and prefect of the Second Prefecture of the diocese of Rome. In addition, he is a member of the College of Postulators of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, and a teacher at the Schola Puerorum of the Sistine Chapel.

 

Appointment of bishop of Dunkeld, Scotland

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Martin Chambers, of the clergy of the diocese of Galloway, until now parish priest of Saint Matthew’s and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, as bishop of the diocese of Dunkeld, Scotland.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Martin Chambers was born on 8 June 1964 in Glasgow. He was awarded a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Universidad de Salamanca.

He was ordained a priest on 25 August 1989.

He has held the following offices: parish priest of Saint John’s, Stevenston (1989-1993); parish priest of Saint Thomas the Apostle, Muirkirk (1993-1996); deputy diocesan director for vocations (1993-1995); diocesan consultant for Catholic Education (1993-2000); parish priest of Saint Bride, West Kilbride (1996-1997); parish priest of Saint John’s, Stevenston (1997-2004); missionary of the Society of Saint James the Apostle in Guayaquil, Ecuador (2004-2009); since 2009, parish priest of Saint Matthew, Kilmarnock; parish administrator of Saint Paul, Hurlford (2013-2015); parish administrator of Saint Sophia, Galston (2013-2015); since 2015, parish priest of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Kilmarnock; since 2018, diocesan director for vocations and diocesan director for the formation of permanent deacons.

 

Appointment of bishop of Down and Connor, Ireland

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Alexander Aloysius McGuckian, S.J., as bishop of the diocese of Down and Connor, Ireland, transferring him from the diocese of Raphoe.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Alexander Aloysius McGuckian, S.J., was born on 26 February 1953 in Ballymena, County Antrim. After entering the Society of Jesus, he was awarded a diploma in Latin and Spanish from the University of Dublin. He subsequently carried out his studies in philosophy and theology in Milltown Park, Dublin, completing them at Regis College in Toronto.

He received priestly ordination on 22 June 1984 in Dublin and, in 1997, he gave his definitive vows.

He has held the following offices: prefect and teacher, Clongowes Wood College (1988-1989); director of vocations (1991-1992); director of the Jesuit Communication Center, Dublin (1992-1996); superior of the Jesuit Community, Leinster Road, Dublin (1996-1999); editor of the journal An Timire (1999-2009); superior of the Jesuit Community, Belfast (2009-2012); director of the Living Church Office, diocese of Down and Connor (2012-2017); consultor of the Irish Province fo the Society of Jesus (2015-2017).

On 9 June 2017 he was appointed bishop of Raphoe, and received episcopal consecration the following 6 August.

He is currently chair of the Episcopal Commission “Justice and Peace” of the Irish Episcopal Conference, and delegate of the Irish Episcopate to the Synod of Bishops.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Goiânia, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Danival Milagres Coelho, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Mariana, parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Piedade in Barbacena-MG, as auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Goiânia, Brazil, assigning him the titular see of Vatarba.

Msgr. Danival Milagres Coelho was born on 4 September 1976 in Senhora dos Remédios, in the archdiocese of Mariana, in the State of Minas Gerais. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology in the São José Archdiocesan Seminary in Mariana-MG. He was subsequently awarded a licentiate in biblical theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 29 June 2002, incardinated in the archdiocese of Mariana.

He has held the following offices: parish priest of São José Operário in Barbacena-MG (2002); parish priest of Sant’Ana in Carandaí-MG (2002-2005); parish vicar (2008-2017) and parish administrator (2009) of Nossa Senhora do Pilar; formator in the Preparatory Seminary (2002-2005); archdiocesan coordinator of vocational pastoral care (2002-2005); spiritual director of the São José Seminary (2009-2011); director of the Institute of Theology (2011-2015); director of the Institute of Philosophy (2015-2017); coordinator of university pastoral care (2016-2019); representative of priests (2019-2020); vicar general for the clergy (dal 2019); professor of sacred Scripture; auditor judge of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of Mariana; member of the Episcopal Council, the Presbyteral Council, and the College of Consultors.

Since 2017, he has served as parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Piedade in Barbacena-MG.
