APOSTOLIC PENITENTIARY MILAN DECREE The Plenary Indulgence is granted to the faithful who, on the occasion of the Seventh World Meeting of Families, will gather in Milan from 30 May to 2 June 2012. The Family gathering will be celebrated at the upcoming World Meeting in Milan, with the theme “Family, Work and Celebration”, with the purpose of indicating how to reconcile family needs with those of work and holidays, especially on Sundays, the weekly Easter, the day of the Lord and the day of man, the day of the family and community. In order for the faithful to prepare themselves spiritually to participate in the best way for the event, His Holiness Benedict XVI willingly grants them the gift of the Indulgence on condition that the following standard requirements are observed, so that, being truly repentant, and encouraged by charity, they devote themselves to the sanctification of the family, according to the example set by the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. The Plenary Indulgence is granted to the faithful who, with a pure spirit, devoutly participate at one of the sacred functions taking place during the World Meeting of Families, including its solemn conclusion. The usual conditions are as follows: sacramental confession, Holy Communion, and prayer according to the Holy Father’s intentions. The faithful who are unable to participate in this event may obtain the Plenary Indulgence, under the same conditions, if, spiritually united with the faithful gathered in Milan, they recite the “Our Father”, the “Creed” and other devout prayers invoking Divine Mercy for the above-mentioned intentions at home, especially when the Pontiff’s words are broadcast on television and via radio. In addition, the Partial Indulgence is granted to the faithful every time they pray with a contrite heart for the good of families. The present Decree is valid for this event. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary. Given in Rome, at the Seat of the Apostolic Penitentiary, 17 May 2012, on the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord.
