Saint Peter’s Basilica: on 6 April, the rite of the Veil of Veronica to be repeated

In keeping with ancient memory, the ostension of the relic of the Holy Face will take place from the loggia of Veronica

VATICAN, 3 APR – On Sunday 6 April, the fifth of Lent, Saint Peter’s Basilica will be a station church. An ancient tradition of the Church of Rome in the Lenten period, with which faithful and pilgrims – every day for forty days – gather and pause in one of the churches in the city where the relics of martyrs and saints are venerated.

At 18.00, during the chanting of the litanies, the faithful will proceed along the naves of the Basilica, entering by the Holy Door.

From the loggia of Veronica, there will be the display of the relic of the Holy Face (Veil of Veronica).

It will be followed by the Eucharistic celebration, presided over by Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, archpriest of the Papal Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican, with the presence of the canons of the Basilica, priests who wish to concelebrate, and the holy people of God.
