The Pope has appointed as apostolic nuncio in Lebanon H.E. Msgr. Joseph Spiteri, titular archbishop of Serta, currently apostolic nuncio in Cote d’Ivoire.

Appointment of auxiliary of São Carlos, Brazil

The Holy Father Francis has appointed as auxiliary bishop of the diocese of São Carlos, Brazil, the Rev. Eduardo Malaspina, of the clergy of the same diocese, currently vicar general and parish priest of São Nicolau de Flüe a São Carlos, assigning him the titular episcopal see of Pupiana.

Rev. Eduardo Malaspina

The Rev. Eduardo Malaspina was born on 12 July 1967 in Tabatinga, diocese of São Carlos. He attended the course in philosophy at the diocesan seminary of São Carlos (1985-1987), and in theology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas (1988-1991). He then specialized in philosophy at the Faculdade Claretiana in Batatais, in pastoral theology at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo and in communication sciences at the Pontifical Salesian University of Rome. In addition, he attended courses in journalism at the Sagrado Coração of Bauru.

He was ordained a priest on 13 December 1991 for the diocese of São Carlos, where he held the following offices: parish vicar of Nossa Senhora do Patrocínio in Jaú (1992); parish administrator of Nossa Senhora Aparecida in Américo Brasiliense (1992-1999); diocesan pastoral secretary and then diocesan pastoral coordinator (2000-2008); member of the Presbyteral Council for three terms; professor at the Preparatory Seminary and at the Seminary of Philosophy of the diocese, and chancellor.

He is currently vicar general (since 2017); parish priest of São Nicolau de Flüe in São Carlos (since 2001) and member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors.
