Oggi, nel Palazzo Apostolico Vaticano, il Santo Padre Francesco ha ricevuto in Udienza Sua Eccellenza il Sig. Benjamin Netanyahu, Primo Ministro dello Stato d’Israele, il quale ha incontrato successivamente l’Ecc.mo Segretario di Stato, Mons. Pietro Parolin, accompagnato dal Sotto-Segretario per i Rapporti con gli Stati, Mons. Antoine Camilleri.
Durante i cordiali colloqui è stata affrontata la complessa situazione politica e sociale del Medio Oriente, con particolare riferimento alla ripresa dei negoziati tra Israeliani e Palestinesi, auspicando che si possa giungere quanto prima ad una soluzione giusta e duratura, nel rispetto dei diritti di ambedue le Parti.
Oltre ad accennare al progetto di pellegrinaggio del Santo Padre in Terra Santa, sono state affrontate alcune questioni riguardanti i rapporti tra le Autorità statali e le comunità cattoliche locali, nonché tra lo Stato d’Israele e la Santa Sede, con l’auspicio di una pronta conclusione dell’Accordo da tempo in preparazione.

Today, in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the Holy Father Francis received in audience His Excellency Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of the State of Israel, who subsequently went on to meet with Secretary of State Archbishop Pietro Parolin, accompanied by the Under-Secretary for Relations with States, Msgr. Antoine Camilleri.
During the colloquial discussions, attention was focused on the complex political and social situation in the Middle East, with particular reference to the reinstatement of negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians, expressing hope that a just and lasting solution respecting the rights of both Parties may be reached as soon as possible.
Aside from indicating the Holy Father’s plans for a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, various questions were considered regarding the relations between the State Authorities and the local Catholic communities, as well as between the State of Israel and the Holy See, in the hope that the Agreement which has been in preparation for some time may be concluded forthwith.
