Il Consiglio Ecumenico delle Chiese di Ginevra [CEC] [World Council of Churches, WCC] terrà la sua Decima Assemblea Generale a Busan, nella Repubblica di Corea, dal 30 ottobre all’8 novembre 2013 sul tema: "Dio della Vita, portaci alla giustizia e alla pace". L’Assemblea, che è il più importante organo di gestione del CEC, è convocata ogni sette anni. Vi prenderanno parte oltre 3.000 delegati ufficiali in rappresentanza delle 345 Chiese e Comunità ecclesiali affiliate all’organismo di Ginevra, delle Chiese non-membro e di organizzazioni associate. La precedente Assemblea si è tenuta nel 2006 a Porto Alegre, in Brasile. Quest’anno essa sarà ospitata dal Consiglio di Chiese della Corea nella Diocesi di Busan.
Secondo il programma, ogni giornata si aprirà con una preghiera comune ed una breve riflessione biblica, si articolerà poi in sessioni plenarie e conversazioni ecumeniche, e si concluderà con una preghiera serale da varie tradizioni cristiane. Uno dei principali compiti dell’Assemblea è la nomina dei membri del nuovo Comitato Centrale incaricato di realizzare le attività del CEC nel periodo tra l’incontro di Busan e la prossima Assemblea Generale.
Il Cardinale Kurt Koch, Presidente del Pontificio Consiglio per la promozione dell’unità dei cristiani, prenderà parte alla seduta inaugurale dell’Assemblea e trasmetterà ai partecipanti un Messaggio augurale del Santo Padre, Papa Francesco.
S.E. Mons. Brian Farrell, Segretario del Pontificio Consiglio per la promozione dell’unità dei cristiani, sarà a capo della delegazione cattolica ufficiale che comprende 25 membri, di cui 7 coreani, in veste di osservatori, tra cui rappresentanti della Curia Romana, di Conferenze episcopali, di istituti di vita consacrata e di movimenti laicali.
La Chiesa cattolica, pur non essendo membro del CEC, collabora in vari modi con questo organismo e con la sua Commissione Fede e Costituzione, la cui funzione è quella di perseguire l’unità dei cristiani attraverso la riflessione comune su questioni che tuttora dividono i cristiani, tra cui, in particolare, l’ecclesiologia. Tra gli strumenti di collaborazione, il "Gruppo Misto di Lavoro" [GML], istituito nel 1965, costituisce la principale struttura di coordinamento delle relazioni tra la Chiesa cattolica ed il CEC.

The World Council of Churches [WCC] will hold its tenth General Assembly in Busan, Republic of Korea, from 30 October to 8 November 2013 on the theme "God of Life, Lead us to Justice and Peace". The Assembly is the most important decision-making body of the WCC, and meets once every seven years. This year over 3,000 official delegates representing 345 affiliated member Churches and Ecclesial Communities will take part in the Assembly, together with other non-member Churches and associated organizations. The previous Assembly was held in Porto Alegre, Brazil, in 2006. This year’s Assembly will be hosted by the Council of Churches of Korea, and will take place in the Diocese of Busan.
Shared prayer and a brief biblical reflection will open the daily programme, which will take the form of plenary sessions and ecumenical conversations concluding in evening prayer from various Christian traditions. One of the main tasks of the Assembly is the election of members of the new Central Committee entrusted with the work of the WCC in the period between the meeting in Busan and the following General Assembly.
Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, will take part in the inaugural session of the Assembly and will convey to participants the message of the Holy Father, Pope Francis.
Bishop Brian Farrell, Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, will head the official Catholic delegation comprising 25 members, seven of whom are Korean, who will be attending as observers representing the Roman Curia, Bishops’ Conferences, institutes of consecrated life and lay movements.
While the Catholic Church is not a member of the WCC, it cooperates in various ways with it, including participation in its Faith and Order Commission, whose function is to pursue the search for Christian unity through joint research on topics that still divide Christians today, particularly ecclesiology. Among other channels of cooperation, the "Joint Working Group" [JWG], which was established in 1965, represents the main instrument coordinating relations between the Catholic Church and the WCC.
