Alle ore 12.45 di questa mattina, nella Sala Clementina del Palazzo Apostolico Vaticano, il Santo Padre Francesco ha ricevuto in Udienza i Patrons of the Arts dei Musei Vaticani, in occasione del 30° anniversario della fondazione.
Pubblichiamo di seguito il discorso che il Papa ha rivolto ai presenti:

Cari Amici, buongiorno
do il benvenuto ai Patrons of the Arts dei Musei Vaticani in occasione di questo pellegrinaggio a Roma, che segna il trentesimo anniversario della vostra fondazione. Lungo il corso degli ultimi tre decenni, i Patrons hanno dato un considerevole contributo per il restauro di numerosi tesori di arte conservati nelle collezioni vaticane e, più in generale, per il compimento della funzione religiosa, artistica e culturale dei Musei. Vi ringrazio di vero cuore per questo.
La nascita dei Patrons of the Arts dei Musei Vaticani fu ispirata non solo da un lodevole senso di corresponsabilità per l’eredità di arte sacra che la Chiesa possiede, ma anche dal desiderio di dare continuità agli ideali spirituali e religiosi che portarono alla creazione delle collezioni pontificie. In ogni epoca la Chiesa ha fatto appello alle arti per dare espressione alla bellezza della propria fede e per proclamare il messaggio evangelico della magnificenza della creazione di Dio, della dignità dell’uomo creato a sua immagine e somiglianza, e del potere della morte e risurrezione di Cristo di portare redenzione e rinascita ad un mondo segnato dalla tragedia del peccato e della morte. I Musei Vaticani, con la loro unica e ricca storia, offrono ad innumerevoli pellegrini e visitatori che giungono a Roma la possibilità di incontrare questo messaggio mediante opere d’arte che danno testimonianza delle aspirazioni spirituali dell’umanità, dei sublimi misteri della fede cristiana e della ricerca di quella bellezza suprema che trova la sua origine e il suo compimento in Dio.
Cari amici, il vostro sostegno alle opere d’arte dei Musei Vaticani possa sempre essere un segno della vostra partecipazione interiore alla vita e alla missione della Chiesa. Possa anche essere espressione della nostra speranza nella venuta di quel Regno la cui bellezza, armonia e pace sono l’attesa di ogni cuore umano e l’ispirazione delle più alte aspirazioni artistiche del genere umano. Su di voi, sulle vostre famiglie e su tutti i vostri aderenti, imparto di cuore la Benedizione Apostolica, in pegno di costante gioia e pace nel Signore.

Dear Friends, good morning
I am pleased to greet the Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums on the occasion of this pilgrimage to Rome marking your thirtieth anniversary of foundation. Over the past three decades the Patrons have made an outstanding contribution to the restoration of numerous treasures of art preserved in the Vatican collections and to the broader religious, artistic and cultural mission of the Museums. For this I thank you most heartily.
The establishment of the Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums was inspired not only by a praiseworthy sense of stewardship for the Church’s heritage of sacred art, but also by the desire to advance the spiritual and religious ideals which led to the foundation of the papal collections. In every age the Church has called upon the arts to give expression to the beauty of her faith and to proclaim the Gospel message of the grandeur of God’s creation, the dignity of human beings made in his image and likeness, and the power of Christ’s death and resurrection to bring redemption and rebirth to a world touched by the tragedy of sin and death.
The Vatican Museums, with their unique and rich history, make it possible for countless pilgrims and visitors to Rome to encounter this message through works of art which bear witness to the spiritual aspirations of humanity, the sublime mysteries of the Christian faith, and the quest of that supreme beauty which has its source and fulfillment in God.
Dear friends, may your patronage of the arts in the Vatican Museums always be a sign of your interior participation in the spiritual life and mission of the Church. May it also be an expression of our hope in the coming of that Kingdom whose beauty, harmony and peace are the expectation of every human heart and the inspiration of mankind’s highest artistic aspirations. To you, your families and associates, I cordially impart my Apostolic Blessing as a pledge of enduring joy and peace in the Lord.
