Nella mattinata di oggi, sabato 6 luglio 2013, nel Palazzo Apostolico Vaticano, il Presidente della Repubblica di Trinidad e Tobago, S.E. il Sig. Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona, è stato ricevuto in Udienza da Sua Santità Francesco. Successivamente, si è incontrato con Sua Eminenza il Cardinale Tarcisio Bertone, Segretario di Stato, il quale era accompagnato da S.E. Mons. Dominique Mamberti, Segretario per i Rapporti con gli Stati.

Durante i cordiali colloqui, ci si è soffermati sul contributo che la Chiesa cattolica offre alla popolazione, specie nei settori dell’educazione, della salute e dell’assistenza ai più bisognosi e vulnerabili, formulando l’auspicio di una proficua collaborazione, sia nella vicinanza ai giovani che nella lotta contro la criminalità e la violenza.

Infine, sono stati toccati alcuni temi di grande rilevanza, quali la formazione integrale della persona e la tutela della famiglia.

On the morning of Saturday 6 July 2013, in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the Holy Father received in audience the president of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona. The president subsequently went on to meet with Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone S.D.B., accompanied by Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, secretary for Relations with States.

During the course of the colloquial discussions, several topics were covered including the contribution the Catholic Church offers to the population, especially in the fields of education, health and assistance to the needy and vulnerable. The Parties expressed their commitment to fruitful collaboration in supporting the young in the fight against crime and violence.

Finally, the focus turned to important themes such as the full formation of the person and the protection of the family.
