Nella mattinata di oggi, 13 giugno 2013, nel Palazzo Apostolico Vaticano, il Santo Padre Francesco ha ricevuto in Udienza il Presidente del Governo della Repubblica di Slovenia, Sua Eccellenza la Sig.ra Alenka Bratušek, la quale ha successivamente incontrato l’Em.mo Cardinale Tarcisio Bertone, Segretario di Stato, accompagnato dal Rev.mo Mons. Antoine Camilleri, Sotto-Segretario per i Rapporti con gli Stati.
Nei cordiali colloqui si sono rilevati i buoni rapporti esistenti tra la Santa Sede e la Repubblica di Slovenia ed è stata confermata la comune volontà di proseguire un dialogo costruttivo sui temi bilaterali attinenti alle relazioni tra la comunità ecclesiale e quella civile, con particolare riferimento al contributo storico della Chiesa cattolica nella vita del Paese e all’importanza che la tutela della libertà religiosa riveste oggi per uno sviluppo armonioso della società slovena.
Nel prosieguo dei colloqui ci si è soffermati sulle sfide che il Paese deve affrontare nell’attuale crisi economica e sull’aiuto che la comunità cattolica, in collaborazione con le istituzioni statali, può fornire per il sostegno sociale della popolazione e per l’educazione dei giovani.
Infine, sono state brevemente passate in rassegna alcune sfide e problematiche di carattere internazionale.

On the morning of 13 June, 2013, in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the Holy Father Francis received in audience the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Her Excellency Ms. Alenka Bratušek. Prime Minister Bratušek subsequently went on to meet with Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, S.D.B., secretary of State, accompanied by Msgr. Antoine Camilleri, under-secretary for the Holy See’s Relations with States.
During the course of the cordial conversations, the good relations existing between the Holy See and the Republic of Slovenia were evident and the common desire to pursue constructive dialogue on issues pertaining to bilateral relations between the ecclesial and civil communities was confirmed, with particular reference given to the Catholic Church’s historical contribution in the country’s life and to the importance that the protection of religious freedom has for the harmonious development of Slovenian society today.
As the talks continued, focus was placed on the challenges that the country must face in the current economic crisis and on the assistance that the Catholic community, in collaboration with state institutions, can provide for the social support of the population and for the education of the young.
Finally, some challenges and problems of an international nature were briefly reviewed.
