BRIEFING SULLA PRIMA CONGREGAZIONE GENERALE DEL COLLEGIO CARDINALIZIO

Alle ore 13 di oggi, lunedì 4 marzo, al termine della prima Congregazione Generale del Collegio cardinalizio in periodo di sede vacante, il Direttore della Sala Stampa della Santa Sede, P. Federico Lombardi, S.I., ha tenuto il consueto briefing per i giornalisti accreditati. Il Direttore è coadiuvato in questo periodo da due assistenti linguistici: P. Thomas Rosica, C.S.B., per l’inglese e il francese, e Mons. José María Gil Tamayo per lo spagnolo.
Di seguito diamo un riassunto di quanto comunicato nel corso del briefing:

Prima Congregazione Generale

La prima Congregazione Generale del Collegio cardinalizio ha avuto inizio questa mattina presso l’Aula nuova del Sinodo alle ore 9.30.

Sedeva alla Presidenza il Card. Decano, Angelo Sodano, accompagnato dal Card. Camerlengo, Tarcisio Bertone, e dal Segretario del Collegio, S.Ecc. Mons. Lorenzo Baldisseri.

I membri del Collegio hanno preso posto nell’Aula in base all’ordine di precedenza (Ordine dei Vescovi; Ordine dei Presbiteri; Ordine dei Diaconi).

Dopo la preghiera iniziale (Veni Sancte Spiritus; Adsumus) e le istruzioni tecniche per il rilevamento delle presenze e per le votazioni, ha preso la parola il Cardinale Decano per un saluto ai convenuti, ricordando la grande importanza dell’evento di fronte alla Chiesa e al mondo.

Ha quindi avuto luogo il giuramento, secondo le modalità previste nel N. 12 della Costituzione apostolica Universi Dominici Gregis. La formula comune è stata letta dal Decano in lingua latina. Poi sono sfilati tutti i cardinali presenti, secondo l’ordine di precedenza, per pronunciare personalmente il proprio giuramento davanti al Crocifisso, poggiando la mano sul Vangelo. L’atto del giuramento ha occupato buona parte del tempo della riunione.

Hanno pronunciato il giuramento i 142 Cardinali presenti, dei quali 102 Elettori.

È stata poi costituita la Congregazione particolare, con il sorteggio dei tre cardinali Assistenti del Camerlengo (cfr Cost. UDG, n.7). I primi tre cardinali sorteggiati sono: Card. Giovanni Battista Re (Ordine dei Vescovi); Card. Crescenzio Sepe (Ordine dei Presbiteri); Card. Franc Rodé (Ordine dei Diaconi). Dopo l’elezione hanno preso posto anch’essi vicino al Camerlengo alla tavola della Presidenza.

È stato previsto che il Padre Cantalamessa, Predicatore della Casa pontificia, tenga nel pomeriggio di oggi la prima delle meditazioni previste dalla Costituzione apostolica.

È stata approvata la proposta del Cardinale Decano di inviare un messaggio di saluto e gratitudine a Sua Santità Benedetto XVI, Papa emerito.

Nel corso della Congregazione ha avuto luogo un intervallo di circa mezzora fra le 11.15 e le 11.45.

Nell’ultima parte della Congregazione, hanno avuto luogo liberi interventi dei Padri Cardinali soprattutto sulla questione del metodo di lavoro e le questioni da affrontare, tenendo presenti anche i risultati dell’ultimo Sinodo dei Vescovi sulla nuova evangelizzazione. Gli interventi sono stati 13.

La Seconda Congregazione generale è convocata per oggi pomeriggio dalle ore 17 alle 19.

Briefing on the First General Congregation of the College of Cardinals.

The first General Congregation of the College of Cardinals began at 9:30am this morning in the new Synod Hall.

Leading the meeting, at the head table, were Cardinal Dean Angelo Sodano, accompanied by Cardinal Camerlengo Tarcisio Bertone, S.D.B., and the Secretary of the College, Archbishop Lorenzo Baldisseri.

The members of the College took their seats in the room following the hierarchical order of precedence (Order of Cardinal-bishops, Order of Cardinal-priests, and Order of Cardinal-deacons).

After the opening prayers (Veni Sancte Spiritus; Adsumus) and the technical instructions regarding the count of those present and the voting process, the Cardinal Dean took the floor to greet those gathered, noting the great importance of this event before the Church and the world.

The oath was then sworn in the manner prescribed in No. 12 of the Apostolic Constitution Universi Dominici Gregis. The common formula of the oath was read aloud by the Dean in Latin. Then, each of the cardinals, according to the order of precedence, advanced to personally swear the oath before the Crucifix and with their hand upon the Gospels. The oath-taking process took up a good portion of the meeting's time.

The 142 cardinals present, of which 102 were Cardinal electors, took the oath.

The Particular Congregation was then established with the drawing by lots of the three assistants to the Cardinal Camerlengo (cf. No. 7, Universi Dominici Gregis). The three cardinals picked were: Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re (Order of Bishops); Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe (Order of Priests), and; Cardinal Franc Rodé (Order of Deacons). After their election these three also took their places next to the Camerlengo at the head table.

It is expected that Fr. Cantalamessa, the preacher of the Pontifical Household, will hold the first of the meditations provided for by the Apostolic Constitution this afternoon.

The Cardinal Dean's proposal to send a message of greeting and gratitude to His Holiness Benedict XVI, Pope emeritus, was approved.

During the course of the Congregation there was a break of about half an hour between 11:15am and 11:45am.

In the last part of the Congregation, 13 Cardinals addressed the gathering freely, mainly regarding questions on the process of the proceedings and the questions to be faced, also bearing in mind the results of the latest Synod of Bishops on the New Evangelization.

The Second General Congregations is called for this afternoon from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

Briefing sobre la Primera Congregación General del Colegio de cardenales.

La primera Congregación general del Colegio de Cardenales ha empezado esta mañana a las 9,30 en el Aula nueva del Sínodo.

Ha estado presidida por el cardenal Decano, Angelo Sodano, a quien acompañaban el cardenal Camarlengo, Tarcisio Bertone y el Secretario del Colegio, S.Ecc. Mons, Lorenzo Baldisseri.

Los miembros del Colegio han tomado asiento en el Aula según el orden de precedencia (Orden de los Obispos; Orden de los Presbíteros; Orden de los Diáconos).

Después de la oración inicial (Veni Sanctae Spiritus; Adsumus) y las instrucciones técnicas para la notificación de la presencia y las votaciones, ha tomado la palabra el cardenal Decano que ha saludado a los participantes, recordando la gran importancia del acontecimiento para la Iglesia y para el mundo.

A continuación se ha procedido al juramento, según las modalidades establecidas en el num. 12 de la Constitución apostólica Universi Dominici Gregis. El Decano ha leído la fórmula común en latín. Después, han desfilado todos los cardenales presentes, según el orden de precedencia, para pronunciar personalmente el propio juramento ante el Crucifijo, apoyando la mano en el Evangelio. El acto del juramento ha ocupado buena parte del tiempo de la reunión.

Han pronunciado el juramento 142 cardenales presentes, de los cuales 102 son electores.

Después se ha constituido la denominada Congregación particular, con el sorteo de tres cardenales ayudantes del Camarlengo (según la Cont. UDG, N.7). Los primeros tres sorteados han sido los cardenales Giovanni Battista Re (Obispos), Crescenzio Sepe (Presbíteros) y Franc Rodé (Diáconos). Después de la designación, los tres han ocupado sus puestos en la mesa presidencial al lado del Camarlengo.

Se ha previsto que el Predicador de la Casa Pontificia, el Padre Cantalamessa, dirigirá esta tarde la primera de las meditaciones establecidas por la Constitución Apostólica.

Asimismo, los cardenales han aprobado la propuesta del cardenal Decano de enviar un mensaje de afecto y agradecimiento a su Santidad Benedicto XVI, Papa emérito.

En el transcurso de esta primera Congregación general ha habido un intervalo (coffee-break) entre las 11.15h y las 11.45 h.

En la última parte de la Congregación han tenido lugar las intervenciones libres de los Padres Cardenales, sobre todo por lo que concierne al método de trabajo y a las cuestiones a las que hacer frente, teniendo presentes también los resultados del último Sínodo de los Obispos sobre la Nueva Evangelización. Las intervenciones han sido trece.

La Segunda Congregación General se ha convocado esta tarde de las 17 a las 19.
