The Bilateral Permanent Working Commission between the Holy See and the State of Israel has held a Plenary meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel today, Thursday, 18 December 2008, for the purpose of advancing the negotiations pursuant to Article 10 § 2 of the Fundamental Agreement between the Holy See and the State of Israel (30 Dec. 1993).

The Delegation of the State of Israel was led by Mr. Aaron Abramovich, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was composed, in addition, of the following Members:

1. Mr. Shmuel Ben-Shmuel, Head of World Jewish Affairs and Interreligious Affairs Department, MFA

2. Mr. Mordechay Lewy, Ambassador of the State of Israel to the Holy See

3. Mr. Oded Brook, Official of the Ministry of Finance

4. Mr. Bahij Mansour, Director of Religious Affairs Department, MFA

5. Mr. Ronen Gil-Or, Adv., Director of General Law Department, MFA

6. Mr. Moshe Golan, the State Attorney’s Office

7. Ms. Yael Weiner, Ministry of Justice

8. Ms. Dana Kursh, Director General’s Bureau, MFA

The Delegation of the Holy See was led by Monsignor Pietro Parolin, Undersecretary for Relations with States at the Secretariat of State, and was composed, in addition, of the following Members:

The work of this Plenary meeting of the Commission took place in an atmosphere of great cordiality and good will. The work was furthered towards achievement of the mutually desired accord. Both sides consider the exchanges significant and helpful.

It was agreed to hold the next Plenary meeting on 23 April 2009, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the meantime, the working-level Commission will hold meetings on 15 January, 18 February, 5 March and 26 March, in furtherance of both delegations’ pledge to accelerate the talks and conclude the agreement at the earliest opportunity.

La Commissione di Lavoro Bilaterale Permanente tra lo Stato d’Israele e la Santa Sede si è riunita in seduta plenaria presso il Ministero degli Affari Esteri dello Stato d’Israele oggi, giovedì 18 dicembre 2008, con l’intento di portare avanti i negoziati relativi all’Art. 10 §2 dell’Accordo Fondamentale tra la Santa Sede e lo Stato d’Israele (30 dicembre 1993).

La delegazione dello Stato d’Israele, guidata dal Sig, Aaron Abramovich, Direttore Generale del Ministero degli Affari Esteri, era composta dai seguenti membri:

1. Sig. Shmuel Ben-Shmuel, Capo del Dipartimento per gli Affari Ebraici ed Inter-religiosi, Ministero degli Affari Esteri

Il lavoro dell’incontro plenario della Commissione è avvenuto in un’atmosfera di grande cordialità e buona volontà. Il lavoro è stato agevolato dalla volontà di giungere ad un accordo desiderato da ambedue le parti. Entrambe le parti considerano il colloquio utile e significativo.

Si è convenuto di tenere la prossima Assemblea Generale il 23 aprile 2009 presso il Ministero degli Affari Esteri. Nel frattempo, la Commissione operativa si incontrerà il 15 gennaio, il 18 febbraio, il 5 marzo ed il 26 marzo per favorire l’impegno delle due Delegazioni di accelerare i colloqui e concludere l’accordo nel più breve tempo possibile.
