Appointment of bishop of Sosnowiec, Poland

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Artur Ważny as bishop of Sosnowiec, transferring him from the titular see of Mazaca and the office of auxiliary bishop of Tarnów.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Artur Ważny was born on 12 October 1966 in Rzeszów, Poland. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the major seminary of Tarnów.

He was ordained a priest on 25 May 1991.

After ordination, he first served as parish vicar of Our Lady of Sorrows in Linanowa (1991-1995) and Mary Queen of Poland in Tarnów-Mościce (1995-1999). He was awarded a licentiate in pastoral theology from Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warszawa, and went on to serve as director of the diocesan Youth Pastoral Care (1996) and the University Pastoral Care (2003) Offices, parish priest of Mary Queen of Poland (2007-2014), director of the diocesan New Evangelization Office (2014-2019), canon of the Collegial Chapter of Saint Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist in Mielec (2017), and director of the Office for the Permanent Formation of the Clergy (2019-2020).

On 12 December 2020 he was appointed titular bishop of Mazaca and auxiliary of Tarnów, and was consecrated the following 30 January.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishops of Madrid, Spain

The Holy Father has appointed the following as auxiliary bishops of Madrid, Spain: the Reverend Vicente Martín Muñoz, of the clergy of Mérida-Badajoz, episcopal delegate for Spanish Caritas, assigning him the titular see of Valliposita, and the Reverend José Antonio Álvarez Sánchez, of the clergy of the Seminary, assigning him the titular see of Vergi.

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Vicente Martín Muñoz

Msgr. Vicente Martín Muñoz was born on 16 September 1969 in La Nava de Santiago, Badajoz. He carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the Metropolitan Seminary of Mérida-Badajoz, where he was ordained a priest in 1995. He obtained a master’s degree in the social doctrine of the Church from the Instituto León XIII and a licentiate in pastoral theology from the Instituto Superior de Pastoral in Madrid.

He has held the following offices: parish priest of Santiago Apóstol in León (1996-1998), Asunción de Nuestra Señora in La Nava de Santiago and Santa María del Pardo in La Roca de la Sierra (1998-2002), parish priest in solidum of San Mateo Apóstol and Santa María del Maercado in Alburquerque (2002-2006), parish priest of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in the quarters of Gurugú and Colorines (2006-2016), diocesan delegate for Caritas (2006-2012), diocesan delegate for consecrated life (2013-2016), and professor of social doctrine of the Church and social pastoral care at the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences (2014-2016). Since 2018 he has served as episcopal delegate for Spanish Caritas and collaborator at Nuestra Señora de las Angustias in Madrid, and since 2020, secretary of the Sub-Commission for Charitable and Social Action of the Episcopal Conference.

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. José Antonio Álvarez Sánchez

Msgr. José Antonio Álvarez Sánchez was born on 3 August 1975 in Madrid. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Universidad Eclesiástica San Dámaso.

He was ordained a priest on 18 June 2000 in Madrid.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Virgen de la Fuensanta (2000-2001), chaplain of the Polytechnic University (2000-2002), formator of the minor seminary (2001-2005), chaplain of the Oblatas de Cristo Sacerdote Sisters (2003-2008), special secretary of the auxiliary bishop (2005-2014), formator of the major seminary (2008-2015), member of the Presbyteral Council (2009-2012), spiritual director of the major seminary and national deputy counsellor of Manos Unidas (2015-2018). Since 2018 he has served as rector of the major seminary.
