Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Belo Horizonte, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Edmar José da Silva, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Mariana, until now parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Conceição in Ouro Preto-MG, as auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, assigning him the titular see of Garriana.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Edmar José da Silva was born on 19 April 1975 in Alto Rio Doce, in the archdiocese of Mariana, in the State of Minas Gerais. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the São José Archdiocesan Seminary in Mariana-MG and obtained a licentiate in philosophy from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome.

On 19 May 2001 he received priestly ordination and was incardinated in the archdiocese of Mariana.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Nossa Senjora da Assunção in Mariana-MG (2001-2004), rector of the minor seminary (2002-2004), spiritual director of the philosophy seminary (2006-2009), parish vicar and then parish administrator of Santa Efigênia in Ouro Preto-MG, parish priest of São Sebastião in Itabirito-MG (2015-2020), member of the team of formators of the São José Seminary (2001-2015), member of the Presbyteral Council (2016-2022), the Episcopal Council (2019-2022) and the College of Consultors (since 2015), professor and coordinator of the philosophy course of the Faculdade Arquidiocesana de Mariana, and president of the Museu Aleijadinho in Ouro Preto-MG.

Since 2020 he has served as parish priest and rector of Nossa Senhora da Conceição in Ouro Preto-MG, and since 2022, director general of the Faculdade Dom Luciano Mendes in Mariana-MG.
