Resignation and appointment of bishop of Virac, Philippines

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Virac, Philippines, presented by Bishop Manolo A. de los Santos.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Luisito A. Occiano, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Caceres, Philippines, as bishop of the diocese of Virac.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Luisito A. Occiano was born on 21 June 1971, and received his secondary education and formation in philosophy and theology at the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary in Naga City.

He was ordained a priest on 10 November 1996 and, after ordination, continued his studies in religious-catechetical formation at the Ateneo de Manila University, obtaining a Master of Arts at the Ateneo de Naga University, Naga City.

He has held the following roles: deputy parish priest of Saint John the Evangelist Metropolitan Cathedral in Naga City (1996), deputy secretary of the Jubilee Executive Committee (1999), secretary to the archbishop, member of the Commission on Social Communications (2002), director of Catechetical Ministry and parish vicar of Saint Francis of Assisi, Naga City (2003), vice rector of the Our Lady of Peñafrancia Minor Basilica, Naga City, and director of the Commission on Social Communications (2004), president of Tricentennial Celebration and the Media Committee (2008), member of the Catechetical Ministry Council (2011), parish priest of Saint Bartholomew Apostle, Baao (2015-2021), and vicar forane of Saint John the Baptist. Since 2021, he has served as rector and parish priest of the archdiocesan Shrine of Saint Joseph and professor at the Holy Rosary Seminary in Naga City.

 

Appointment of bishop of Girona, Spain

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Octavi Vilà Mayo, O. Cist., until now abbot of the Real Monasterio Santa María de Poblet, Tarragona, as bishop of Girona, Spain.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Octavi Vilà Mayo, O. Cist., was born in Tarragona on 11 December 1961. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Faculty of Theology of Catalonia. He entered the novitiate of the Monastery of Poblet in 2006, and gave his perpetual vows in 2010.

He was ordained a priest on 1 May 2015.

He has carried out the following studies: licentiate in geography and history (1984), diploma in library science and documentation at the Universitat de Barcelona (1987), and diploma in new information technologies at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (1996). He has served as secretary and vice president of the Bibliographical Archive of Santes Creus (1998-2005) and is the author of various articles and works on history. Since 3 December 2015 he has held the role of abbot of Santa María de Poblet.

 

Appointment of under-secretary of the Dicastery for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Aitor Jiménez Echave, C.M.F., until now official of the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life, as under-secretary of the same Curial institution.

Curriculum vitae

Fr. Jiménez Echave was born on 29 December 1962 in Luchana-Baracaldo, Spain. On 13 September 1987 he gave his perpetual vows in the Congregation of Missionary Daughters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and on 30 April 1989 he received priestly ordination. He was awarded a doctorate in Utroque Iure and a doctorate in theology of consecrated life from the Pontifical Lateran University of Rome. He also holds various diplomas, including one in Eastern Canon Law. Since 2006 he has served as an official of the Dicastery for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life.
