Appointment of auxiliary bishop of São Paulo, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Edilson de Souza Silva, of the clergy of São Miguel Paulista, vicar general and parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Penha, as auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of São Paulo, Brazil, assigning him the titular see of Badie.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Edilson de Souza Silva was born on 11 September 1968 in Caculé, diocese of Caetité, in the State of Bahia. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the Faculdades Associadas do Ipiranga in São Paulo-SP and in theology at the Pontifícia Faculdade de Teologia Nossa Senhora da Assunção in São Paulo-SP. He was subsequently awarded a licentiate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

He received episcopal ordination on 10 December 1994, and was incardinated in the diocese of São Miguel Paulista.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Santo Antônio; deputy rector and then spiritual director of the Nossa Senhora da Penha Seminary; parish priest of São José and of Nossa Senhora do Rosário; diocesan pastoral coordinator, vicar forane of the São Miguel Region; member of the Presbyteral Council and of the College of Consultors.

Since 2013 he has served as vicar general, and since 2017, parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Penha.
