Appointment of bishop of Alaminos, Philippines

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Napolean B. Sipalay Jr., of the Order of Preachers, until now vice-rector and spiritual director of the University of Santo Tomas Central Seminary and member of the Priory of Saint Thomas Aquinas community of the archdiocese of Manila, as bishop of Alaminos, Philippines.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Napoleon B. Sipalay Jr., O.P., was born on 20 October 1970 in Davao City. He attended the Philippine Dominican Center of Institutional Studies, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy, and the University of Santo Tomas, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Sacred Theology. He continued his studies in consecrated life at the Institute of Consecrated Life in Asia, in Quezon City.

He has held the following offices: assistant master of students, Dominican studentate, Dominican province of the Philippines, Quezon City (1996-2000); director of pastoral formation in Quezon City, Philippines (1999-2000); conventual counsellor, Santo Domingo Convent, Quezon City (1999-2001); master of novices of the Dominican novitiate in Manaoag, Pagasinan, Philippines (2001-2006); missionary of the diocese of Kandy and teacher at the National Seminary of Our Lady of Lanka, Sri Lanka (2006-2015); superior of the Dominican mission of the diocese of Kandy, Sri Lanka (2006-2009; secretary of the Committee for Religious Formation, Conference of Major Religious Superiors of Sri Lanka; conventual prior of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, Manaoag (2015-2016); provincial prior of Quezon City and vice chancellor of the University of Santo Tomas (2016-2021); president of the Board of Trustees of various Dominican institutions (2017-2021); since 2021, spiritual director of the University of Santo Tomas Central Seminary, member of the Priory of Saint Thomas Aquinas community, president of the Provincial Pastoral Board, and member (ex officio) of the Provincial Personnel Board, Quezon City.
