Resignation and appointment of archbishop of Capua and union in pesona Episcopi of the dioceses of Capua and Caserta, Italy

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of Capua, Italy, presented by Bishop Salvatore Visco.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Pietro Lagnese of Caserta, Italy, as archbishop of Capua, Italy, uniting the two sees in persona Episcopi.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Pietro Lagnese was born on 9 September 1962 in Vitulazio, in the archdiocese of Capua, in the province of Caserta. He carried out his formation at the Capodimonte Major Seminary in Naples, attending the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy, Sezione San Tommaso, where he was awarded a licentiate in sacred theology.

He was ordained a priest on 1 May 1986.

He has held the following offices: parish priest of Santa Maria dell’Agnena  in Vitulazio (1987-2013); secretary of the diocesan synod (1988-1993); Spiritual Father at the Capodimonte Major Seminary; member of the College of Consultors; regional head of family pastoral care.

He was elected to the episcopal See of Ischia on 23 February 2013, and received episcopal consecration the following 1 May. He was transferred to Caserta on 19 December 2020.

Within the Italian Episcopal Conference, he is a member of the Episcopal Commission for social problems and labour, justice and peace. In addition, he is bishop delegate for the family and life in the Episcopal Conference of Campania.
