Appointment of bishop prelate of Marajó, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop José Ionilton Lisboa de Oliveira, S.D.V., as bishop prelate of Marajó, transferring him from the territorial prelature of Itacoatiara, Brazil.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop José Ionilton Lisboa de Oliveira, S.D.V., was born on 9 March 1962 in Araci, archdiocese of Feira di Santana, in the State of Bahia. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the seminary of the archdiocese of Vitória da Conquista (BA) and in theology at the Benedictine Faculty in Rio de Janeiro (RJ).

He gave his religious vows on 21 January 1990 in the Society of Divine Vocations (Vocationist Fathers), and received priestly ordination on 19 January 1992.

He has held the following offices: vocational animator, formator of novices, director of the Community and provincial superior within his religious institute; parish vicar, parish priest and member of the Presbyteral Council of Vitória da Conquista. On 19 April 2017 he was appointed bishop prelate of Itacoatiara, and received episcopal ordination on the following 16 July.

He is a member of the Episcopal Pastoral Commission for Social-Transformative action of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil, and secretary of the Pan-Amazonian Ecclesial Network (REPAM-Brazil).
