During the days 13 to 15 September 2023, Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, archbishop of Bologna and president of the Italian Episcopal Conference, will go to Beijing, accompanied by an official of the Secretariat of State, as the Holy Father Francis’ special envoy.

The visit will constitute a further stage in the mission requested by the Pope to support humanitarian initiatives and the search for paths that may lead to a just peace.
