Appointment of bishop of Mexicali, Mexico

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Enrique Sánchez Martínez as bishop of the diocese of Mexicali, Mexico, transferring him from the diocese of Nuevo Laredo

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Enrique Sánchez Martínez was born on 2 December 1960 in Cuencamé, in the diocese of Gómez Palacio. After completing his ecclesiastical studies in the seminary of Durango, he was awarded a licentiate in sociology from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 29 June 1986 for the archdiocese of Durango.

He has held the following offices: bursar and lecturer in the major seminary; head of diocesan social pastoral care; chaplain of the Daughters of the Sacred Heart; parish priest and vicar for pastoral care.

He was elected titular bishop of Thamugadi and auxiliary of Durango on 21 July 2008, and received episcopal ordination the following 10 October.

On 16 November 2015 he was appointed bishop of Nuevo Laredo.
