Resignation of bishop of Molegbe, Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Molegbe, Democratic Republic of the Congo, presented by Bishop Dominique Bulamatari.

 

Appointments of counsellor general of Vatican City State

The Holy Father has appointed the distinguished Professor Vincenzo Buonomo, counsellor of Vatican City State, as counsellor of the same State.

 

Appointment of Magnificent Rector of the Pontifical Lateran University

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Alfonso V. Amarante, C.SS.R., until now rector of the Graduate Institute of Moral Theology ad instar Facultatis (Alphonsian Academy) as magnificent rector of the Pontifical Lateran University, at the same time conferring to him the title of archbishop and assigning him the titular see of Sorres.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Alfonso V. Amarante, C.SS.R., was born in Pagani, Salerno, on 26 December 1970. He entered the studentate of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (C.SS.R.) of Naples, and gave his first vows on 29 September 1993 and his perpetual vows on 29 September 1996. He was ordained a priest on 21 June 1997.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy in Naples in 1996, he was awarded a licentiate in Church history in 1999 from the Pontifical Gregorian University and a doctorate in theology in 2002. He completed his curriculum studiorum in moral theology at the Alphonsian Academy.

He has held the following offices: bursar and assistant formator of students of the Redemptorist province of Southern Italy (2000-2002); since 2003, visiting professor at the Alphonsian Academy, then becoming lecturer in 2017; director of the Saint Alphonsus Major College of Rome for Redemptorist students (2002-2007); head of Redemptorist vocational youth pastoral ministry of the province of Redemptorist Missionaries of Southern Italy (2008-2011); lecturer at the Pontifical Faculty Theological Faculty of Southern Italy in Naples and at the Pontifical Urban University (2008-2016): counsellor of the Redemptorist Province of Southern Italy (2011-2014); vice-rector of the Alphonsian Academy (2013-2018); member and treasurer of the Italian Association of Church History Professors (2017-2023); since 2002, vice-president of the Editiones Academiae Alfonsianse – Edacalf Assocation; since 2011, consultor of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints; since 2014, managing director and member of the Scientific Committee of the journal Spicilegium Historicum CSR; since 2017, professor of moral theology at the Pontifical Lateran University and co-responsible for the formation of lay associates of the Redemptorists; since 2018, rector of the Pontifical Alphonsian Academy and secretary of the Conference of Rectors of Roman Pontifical Universities and Institutions; and since 2019, visitator of the Holy See Agency for the Evaluation and Promotion of Quality in Ecclesiastical Universities and Faculties (AVEPRO).
