Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of La Plata, Argentina

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Gabriel Antonio Mestre, until now bishop of Mar del Plata, as metropolitan archbishop of La Plata, Argentina.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Gabriel Antonio Mestre was born on 15 September 1968 in Mar del Plata, and was ordained a priest on 16 May 1997. He graduated in theology, specializing in sacred scripture, from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina.

On 18 July 2017 he was appointed bishop of Mar del Plata, receiving episcopal ordination the following 16 August.

Within the Argentine Episcopal Conference, he is president of the Episcopal Commission for Catechesis, Animation and Biblical Pastoral Ministry.
