Appointment of bishop of Ostrava-Opava, Czech Republic

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Martin David as bishop of the diocese of Ostrava-Opava, Czech Republic, transferring him from the titular see of Thucca in Numidia and the office of auxiliary of the diocese of Ostrava-Opava.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Martin David was born in Čeladná, diocese of Ostrava-Opava, on 15 August 1970. After his military service, he studied in the Faculty of Theology of Saints Cyril and Methodius of the Palacký University Olomouc.

He received priestly ordination on 24 June 2000, and was incardinated in the diocese of Ostrava-Opava.

He has held the following offices: vicar of the Virgin Mary parish in Opava (2000-2002); parish administrator in Stěbořice and in Hlavnice (2002-2005); parish priest of Stěbořice; since 2006, secretary of the diocesan Liturgical Commission and, since 2008, vicar general, and member of the College of Consultors and the Presbyteral Council.

On 7 April 2017 he was appointed titular bishop of Thucca in Numidia and auxiliary of the diocese of Ostrava-Opava. On 1 June 2020 he was appointed apostolic administrator sede plena of Ostrava-Opava and, on 21 February 2022, apostolic administrator sede vacante of the same diocese.

He is also president of the Liturgical Commission within the Episcopal Conference.
