The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the office of auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Providence, United States of America, presented by Bishop Robert C. Evans.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Richard G. Henning, until now titular bishop of Tabla and auxiliary of Rockville Centre, United States of America, as coadjutor bishop of Providence, United States of America.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Richard G. Henning was born on 17 October 1964 in Rockville Centre, in the diocese of the same name. In 1988 he was awarded a Master of Arts in history from Saint John’s University in Queens, New York, and carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington (1988-1992). Subsequently, in 2000, he received a licentiate in biblical theology from the Catholic University of America in Washington and, in 2007, a doctorate in biblical theology from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, Rome.

He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Rockville Centre on 30 May 1992.

He has held the following roles: parish vicar of the Saint Peter of Alcantara parish in Port Washington (1992-1997); professor of sacred scripture, formator (2002-2012) and then rector (2012-2018) at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington (2002-2012); director of the Sacred Heart Institute for Ongoing Formation of the Clergy (2012-2018); episcopal vicar of the Central Vicariate (2017); since 2018, vicar for Parish Evangelization and Pastoral Planning, and since 2021, vicar for the clergy.

On 8 June 2018 he was appointed titular bishop of Tabla and auxiliary of Rockville Centre, and received episcopal consecration the following 24 July.
