Resignation and appointment of bishop of Grosseto, Italy, and union in persona Episcopi of the dioceses of Pitigliano-Sovana-Orbetello and Grosseto

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Grosseto, Italy, presented by Bishop Rodolfo Cetoloni, O.F.M.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Gianni Roncari, O.F.M. Cap., of Pitigliano-Sovana-Orbetello, as bishop of the diocese of Grosseto, Italy, uniting in persona Episcopi the dioceses of Pitigliano-Sovana-Orbetello and Grosseto.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Gianni Roncari, O.F.M. Cap., was born on 19 August 1949 in Verona, in the diocese of the same name. He entered the Seminary of Friars Minor Capuchin in Florence, starting the period of the novitiate in 1966.  He attended the Liceo Classico (classical high school) within the seminary, continuing his theological studies until he obtained his baccalaureate.

On 20 August 1972 he gave his religious vows in the Capuchin Province of Tuscany and was ordained a priest in Viterbo on 22 March 1975. After ordination he obtained a licentiate in Church History at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

He has held the following positions: chaplain at the Florentine Hospital of Careggi from 1975 to 1976; assistant to the young university students resident at the Convent of Pisa from 1979 to 1980; deputy director of theologians, assistant to the Secular Franciscan Order and Franciscan Youth of Montughi, Florence; parish vicar from 1984 to 1988 and from 1992 parish priest of San Francesco e Santa Chiara in Montughi; from 1998 to 2005 delegate of the metropolitan archdiocese of Florence for the lay apostolate and ecclesiastical assistant to the diocesan council for lay aggregations; since 2002, member of the College of Consultors and since 2012, episcopal vicar for the Clergy.

He was also professor of Church history at the Theological Faculty of Central Italy from 1988 until his election as bishop.

He was elected bishop of Pitigliano-Sovana-Orbetello on 1 October 2015, and received episcopal consecration the following 21 November.

Within the Tuscan Episcopal Conference, he is bishop delegate for consecrated life.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Tainan, Taiwan, and appointment of apostolic administrator Sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Tainan, Taiwan, presented by Bishop John Lee Juo-Wang.

At the same time the Pope appointed Bishop Bosco Lin Chi-nan, emeritus of Tainan, as apostolic administrator Sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis.
