Press Release of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue on the annual meeting of the World Council of Churches (19-20 January 2021), 24.01.2021

The annual meeting between Officials of the Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue (PCID) and the Office of Inter-religious Dialogue and Cooperation (IRDC) of the World Council of Churches (WCC) took place online on 19-20 January 2021.

Besides a mutual update on the activities of their offices in 2020, both sides reflected on effective ways of disseminating the document Serving a Wounded World in Interreligious Solidarity: A Christian Call to Reflection and Action During COVID-19 and Beyond, co-produced during the challenging months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This latest document, part of a series of joint publications, witnesses to the friendship and collaboration for over forty years in an ecumenical engagement for interreligious dialogue. Earlier joint-projects were on Interreligious Marriage (1994-1997), Interreligious Prayer (1997-1998), African Religiosity (2000-2004), Christian Witness in a Multi-Religious World (2006-2011), and Education for Peace (2019).

The meetings, held during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, express the commitment of both the Offices to grow in ecumenical communion and intensify collaborative efforts in promoting interreligious dialogue through wider reception and implementation of the documents, in particular, at this last meeting, the document on Interreligious Solidarity.
