Resignation and appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Naxos, Andros, Tynos, Mykonos and apostolic administrator of the diocese of Chios, Greece

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation presented by the metropolitan archbishop of Naxos, Andros, Tynos, Mykonos and apostolic administrator of the diocese of Chios, Greece, Archbishop Nikolaos Printezis.

The Holy Father has appointed as metropolitan archbishop of Naxos, Andros, Tynos, Mykonos and apostolic administrator of the diocese of Chios, Greece, the Reverend Josif Printezis, until now parish priest of the Cathedral of Syros.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Josif Printezis was born on 6 February 1970 in Poseidonia, in the island of Syros, Greece. After his primary and secondary studies in Syros, he carried out his institutional studies in philosophy and theology in Boston, in the United States of America.

He was ordained a priest on 15 July 1995.

He has held pastoral roles in various parishes, and has served as diocesan master of liturgical celebrations. At national level he was chair of the Liturgical Commission.

From 2017 until the present day he has served as parish priest of the Cathedral of Syros.

Besides Greek, he speaks English.

 

Resignation of bishop of Trois-Rivières, Canada

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Trois-Rivières, Canada, presented by Bishop Joseph Luc André Bouchard.

 

Appointment of bishop of Kalisz, Poland

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Kalisz, Poland, Bishop Damian Bryl, titular of Suliana and auxiliary of the metropolitan archdiocese of Poznań.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Damian Bryl was born on 10 February 1969 in Jarocin, in the metropolitan archdiocese of Poznań. After completing his high school studies, in 1988 he entered the major seminary of Poznań and attended courses in philosophy and theology at the local Pontifical Faculty of Theology.

He was ordained a priest on 26 May 1994.

Since priestly ordination he has served as parish vicar of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Środa Wielkopolska (1994-1996). In 1999 he was awarded a doctorate in theology at the Universidad de Navarra, Spain. He subsequently taught theology at the Adam Mickiewicz University of Poznań. From 2000 he was chief editor of the journal Katecheta and spiritual director of the major seminary of Poznań (2001-2013). In 2011 he was appointed as president of the national association of Spiritual Directors of Seminaries and Polish Institutes of Formation.

On 13 July 2013 he was appointed as titular bishop of Suliana and auxiliary of Poznań. He received episcopal ordination on 8 September 2013.

Within the Polish Episcopal Conference he has held the following roles: elected member of the Standing Council, member of the Commission for the Clergy, for Catholic Education and for the Family.

 

Appointment of consulters of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith

The Holy Father has appointed as consulters of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith: Msgr. Antonio Pitta, pro-rector of the Pontifical Lateran University; Fr. Luca Ezio Bolis, professor at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy; Fr. Alessandro Clemenzia, professor at the Theological Faculty of Central Italy.

 

Appointment of members of the Pontifical Biblical Commission

The Holy Father has appointed as members of the Pontifical Biblical Commission:  Andrés María García Serrano, lecturer in the New Testament studies at the Universidad Eclesiástica San Dámaso, Madrid, Spain; Federico Giuntoli, lecturer in Old Testament studies at the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome, Italy; Marcin Kowalski, lecturer in New Testament studies at the Catholic University of Lublin, Poland; Blažej Štrba, lecturer at the Comenius University of Bratislava, Badín, Slovakia; Fr. Paul Béré, S.J., lecturer in Sacred Scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome, Italy; Philippe Lefebvre, O.P., lecturer in Old Testament studies at the Université de Fribourg, Switzerland; Fr. Henry Pattarumadathil, S.J., lecturer in Sacred Scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome, Italy; Mr. Bénédicte Lemmelijn, lecturer in Old Testament studies at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, and Ms. Maria Armida Nicolaci, lecturer in Sacred Scripture at the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Saint John the Evangelist, Palermo, Italy.
