Appointment of bishop of Rapid City, U.S.A.

The Holy Father appointed as bishop of Rapid City, United States of America, the Reverend Peter Michael Muhich, of the clergy of the diocese of Duluth, Minnesota, currently rector of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary of the same see.

Reverend Peter Michael Muhich

The Reverend Peter Michael Muhich was born on 13 May 1961 in Eveleth, in the diocese of Duluth, Minnesota. He attended Eveleth High School in Eveleth and obtained a bachelor’s degree in history from the Saint Thomas-Saint Paul University in Minnesota. He carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the American College at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, and obtained a licentiate in technology.

He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Duluth on 29 September 1989.

Since priestly ordination, he has held the following offices: parish vicar of the Saint Francis parish in Brainerd (1989-1991), of the Saint Joseph parish in Grand Rapids, of the Our Lady of the Snows parish in Bigfork and of the Saint Theresa parish in Effie (1991-1993); parish priest of the Holy Rosary parish in Aurora and of the Queen of Peace parish in Hoyt Lakes (1993-1996), of the Saint Rose parish in Proctor and of the Saint Philip parish in Saginaw (1996-1998), of the Blessed Sacrament, Saint Leo and Immaculate Conception parish in Hibbing (1996-2009); administrator and then rector of the Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral in Duluth (since 2009); parish priest of the Saint Mary Star of the Sea parish and of the Our Lady of Mercy parish in Duluth (since 2010); interim administrator of the Saint Francis parish in Carlton, and of the Saints Mary and Joseph in Sawyer (since 2019); vicar forane of the Duluth Deanery (since 2017); and member of the College of Consultors (1993-1996), the presbyteral council (1993-1996 and since 2014), the Clergy Personnel Board (2002-2007), the Priest Personnel Board (since 2007) and the diocesan Council for Economic Affairs.
