Resignation of bishop of Ciudad Valles, Mexico, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Ciudad Valles, Mexico, presented by Bishop Roberto Octavio Balmore Cinta, M.J.

The Pope has appointed as bishop of Ciudad Valles, Mexico, the Reverend Roberto Yenny García, of the clergy of the diocese of Tampico, secretary for institutional relations of the Episcopal Conference of Mexico.

Reverend Roberto Yenny García

The Reverend Roberto Yenny García was born in Mexico City on 8 February 1972.

He was ordained a priest on 19 March 1996 and incarnated in the diocese of Tampico.

He holds the following academic titles: doctorate in philosophy from the IEST of Anahuac; doctorate in moral theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome; Master’s degree in family therapy from the University of Taumalipas and Master’s degree in counselling from the Catholic University of Valenza.

He has served as prefect of the minor seminary of Tampico, parish vicar, spiritual director of the major seminary, parish priest in two parishes, and rector of the Conciliar Seminary of Tampico. Since 2019 he holds the office of executive secretary for institutional relations of the Mexican Episcopal Conference.

 

Resignation and succession of bishop of Concepción, Argentina

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Concepción, Argentina, presented by Bishop Armando José María Rossi, O.P.

He is succeeded by Bishop José Melitón Chávez, coadjutor of the same diocese.

 

Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Adelaide, Australia

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Patrick Michael O’Regan as metropolitan archbishop of Adelaide, Australia.

Archbishop-elect Patrick Michael O’Regan

Archbishop-elect. Patrick Michael O’Regan was born on 8 October 1958 in Bathurst, in the State of New South Wales. For his primary education he attended Saint Joseph’s Infants School in Perthville and Saint Patrick’s Primary School in Bathurst, and received his secondary education at Saint Stanislaus College in Bathurst. He subsequently received his ecclesiastical formation in the provincial seminary of Sydney (Saint Patrick’s College), in Manly. He also holds a licentiate in liturgy and sacramental theology from the Institut Catholique of Paris.

On 2 September 1983 he was ordained a priest for the diocese of Bathurst. Since ordination he has held the following offices:  deputy parish priest in Lithgow (1983-1985), in Cowra (1985-1988) and in Orange (1988-1990). From 1990 to 1994 he was vice dean of the Cathedral of Bathurst. In 1994 he was sent to France to begin his studies at the Institute Catholique in Paris. He was subsequently appointed as deputy parish priest of Orange (1995-1997) and then parish priest of the parish of Wellington (1997-2003). In 2002 he completed his licentiate in liturgy and sacramental theology in Paris. Then, after 5 years as parish priest in Blayney, he was elected as diocesan administrator of the diocese of Bathurst (2008-2009). Appointed as chancellor of Bathurst in 2009, he received in succession the roles of dean of the Cathedral (2010) and vicar general of the same diocese. He was diocesan coordinator for the ongoing formation of the clergy and of the Ministry to Priests, and head of the programme for the permanent deaconry. He taught several courses at the Catholic Institute of Sydney and at the Charles Sturt University of Bathurst. He collaborated in the editing of several volumes of the series “Catholic Studies for Senior Secondary Students”.

On 4 December 2014 he was appointed as bishop of Sale.

He is president of the liturgical commission of the Australian Episcopal Conference and, since 2018, member of the standing board.

 

Appointment of auxiliary of the archdiocese of Zamboanga, Philippines

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary of the archdiocese of Zamboanga, Philippines, the Reverend Moises M. Cuevas, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Zamboanga, parish priest of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Zamboanga City, assigning him the titular see of Maraguia.

The Reverend Moises M. Cuevas was born in Batangas City, in the archdiocese of Lipa, on 25 November 1973. He completed his higher studies in philosophy at the Pastor Bonus Seminary of Tetuan, Zamboanga City, and in theology in the Regional Major Seminary of Davao City.

He was ordained a priest for the archdiocese of Zamboanga on 6 December 2000.

He subsequently exercised the following ministries: parish vicar of the metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Zamboanga (2001-2003); rector of the Our Lady of Pilar Shrine (2003-2009); chancellor of the archdiocese of Zamboanga (2003-2009); administrator of the pastoral centre (2005-2007); and parish priest of the parish of Santa Maria (2009-2015).

Since 2015 he has served as parish priest of the metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of Zamboanga and, since 2017, director of the Episcopal Commission for the formation of the clergy.
