Appointment of auxiliary of Valencia, Spain

The Holy Father has transferred Bishop Vicente Juan Segura of Ibiza to the office of auxiliary of Valencia, Spain, assigning him the titular see of Armentia.

Bishop Vicente Juan Segura

Bishop Vicente Juan Segura was born in Tavernes de Valldigna, archdiocese and civil province of Valencia, on 22 May 1955. He carried out his ecclesiastical studies in the major seminary of Valencia and was ordained a priest on 24 October 1981. In the same year he obtained a licentiate in theology from the San Vicente Ferrer Faculty of Theology, a doctorate in canon law from the Angelicum in Rome (1988) and a doctorate in civil law from the University of Valencia. He continued his studies at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy (1985-1988) and entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on 1 July 1988.

He has served as parish vicar in Cullera (1981 to 1985), nunciature officer and secretary in Costa Rica (1988-1990), nunciature secretary in Mozambique (1991-1994), and nunciature counsellor and head of the Spanish language section of the Secretariat of State (1994-2004).

He was appointed as bishop of Ibiza on 27 January 2005 and was consecrated the following 14 May. In the Episcopal Conference he has served as member of the Episcopal Sub-Commission for the Family and the Defence of Life, of the Commission for Cultural Heritage and, since 2017, of the Episcopal Council for Legal Affairs.
