Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Durango, Mexico

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Faustino Armendáriz Jiménez of Querétaro as metropolitan archbishop of Durango, Mexico.

Bishop Faustino Armendáriz Jiménez

Bishop Faustino Armendáriz Jiménez was born in Magdalena de Kino in the archdiocese of Hermosillo on 23 July 1955. He studied in the Hermosillo and Guadalajara seminaries. He was ordained a priest on 11 September 1982, and incardinated in the archdiocese of Hermosillo. After priestly ordination he was sent abroad to study, first in Rome, where he graduated in sacred scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute, then in Jerusalem where he graduated in oriental Biblical sciences at the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum.

On 4 January 2005 he was elected bishop of Matamoros and was consecrated on 23 February 2005.

On 20 April 2011 he was transferred to the diocese of Querétaro.

Within the Mexican Episcopal Conference he holds the office of president of the Episcopal Commission for Prophetic Pastoral Care for the three-year period 2018-2021.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Msgr. Marco Ganci, nunciature counsellor, as special envoy and Holy See Permanent Observer at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg,.

Reverend Msgr. Marco Ganci

The Reverend Msgr. Marco Ganci was born in Catanzaro, on 16 May 1976.

He was ordained a priest on 16 December 2000 and incardinated in Catanzaro-Squillace.

He holds a degree in canon law. He entered the Holy See diplomatic service on 1 July 2006 and has worked in the Pontifical Representations in Bolivia, Greece, at the European Union in Brussels, and Kenya.

He knows English, Spanish and French.
