Assent to appointment of eparchial bishop of Sohag, Egypt

The Holy Father Francis has granted his assent to the canonical election by the Synod of Bishops of the Patriarchal Church of Alexandria of the Copts of Rev. Basilios Fawzy Al-Dabe, currently parish priest of the Cathedral of Mynia, as eparchial bishop of Sohag, Egypt.

The bishop-elect was born in 1956, and was ordained a priest in 1980. He holds a degree in art from the University of Cairo. He has served as parish priest of the Holy Family parish in Mynia and the Holy Family parish in Maghaga. He is currently pastor of the Cathedral of Mynia, and director of Catholic schools of the eparchy.

 

Assent to appointment of bishop of the Patriarchal Curia

The Holy Father Francis has granted his assent to the canonical election by the Synod of Bishops of the Patriarchal Church of Alexandria of the Copts of Rev. Hani Bakhoum Kiroulos, currently administrative vicar of the patriarchate, as bishop of the Patriarchal Curia, assigning him the titular see of Cabasa. The prelate has assumed the name of Bakhoum.

The bishop elect was born in Cairo in 1974 and was ordained a priest in 2004. He holds a degree in telecommunications engineering, and a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Lateran University. He has held a number of pastoral roles including deputy priest and parish priest, and vice-rector of the Redemptoris Mater seminary in Lebanon, and has served as special secretary to the Patriarch, secretary of the Assembly of Patriarchs and Catholic bishops of Egypt, judge of the Patriarchal tribunal, and lecturer at various Catholic academic institutions.
