Resignation of bishop of Syracuse, U.S.A.
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Syracuse, United States of America, presented by Bishop Robert J. Cunningham.
The Pope has appointed as bishop of Syracuse, United States of America, the Rev. Douglas Lucia, of the clergy of the diocese of Ogdensburg, New York, currently judicial vicar and parish priest of the Saint Mary parish in Waddington and the Saint John the Baptist parish in Madrid.
The bishop-elect was born in 1963 in Plattsburgh, in the diocese of Ogdensburg, New York, and was ordained a priest in 1989, for the same diocese. He holds a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, Rome.
Since ordination he has served in a number of offices, including: parish vicar, parish administrator, adjunct secretary of the diocesan tribunal, chaplain of the Gouverneur Correctional Facility, adjunct judicial vicar, director for vocational pastoral ministry, director of seminarians, chancellor and episcopal vicar for Diocesan Services, parish priest, episcopal vicar for Worship and priestly formation, and judicial vicar.
