Apostolic Trip of Pope Francis to Bulgaria and North Macedonia (5 to7 May 2019) – Words of the Holy Father during the flight from Rome to Sofia, 05.05.2019

This morning, on the aircraft that carried him to Bulgaria, the Holy Father Francis, as usual, greeted the media workers who accompanied him on the papal flight.

Introduced by the interim director of the Holy See Press Office, Alessandro Gisotti, the Pope addressed some words to the journalists. The full text is given below:

Words of the Holy Father

Alessandro Gisotti:

Good morning. Welcome, Holy Father, and thank you for coming here for a greeting, even though the flight is short; but we know that it is important to you.

This is the fourth apostolic trip of this year: four continents, Holy Father: America, Asia, Africa, and now in Europe.

A welcome to colleagues, and in particular those of Bulgaria and North Macedonia who are here. It is a trip – you let it be understood also in the video messages – that you feel is inspired and accompanied by Saint John XIII and by Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

Before passing over to you, Holy Father, I would also like to say to you that here today we have a colleague, Aura Miguel, who has reached her one hundredth apostolic trip. A hundred! Here she is, from Radio Renascença.

Pope Francis:

It is Portugal!

Alessandro Gisotti:

It is Portugal. Over to you, Holy Father.

Pope Francis:

Good morning, and many thanks for the company, for your work. It will be a short trip, just three days, but the organizers have made it very, very full: let us take advantage of this. Thank you for your work and for your company.
