Resignation of archbishop of Mandalay, Myanmar, and appointment of successor
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of Mandalay, Myanmar, presented by H.E. Msgr. Nicholas Mang Thang, and has appointed as his successor the Rev. Marco Tin Win, of the clergy of Mandalay, currently vicar general.
The archbishop-elect was born in Mon Hla, district of Shwebo, in the archdiocese of Mandalay in 1960, and carried out his philosophical and theological studies in Saint Joseph’s Major Seminary in Yangon. He was ordained a priest on 22 September 1987 and holds a doctorate in philosophy from the Pontifical Urban University, Rome.
Since ordination he has held a number of pastoral and administrative roles, including diocesan director for interreligious dialogue, rector of the Saint Thomas Preparatory Seminary of Mandalay, diocesan bursar, parish priest of the parish of Mary, Help of Christians in Sagaing, and executive secretary of the Episcopal Conference in Yangon. He is currently vicar general, rector of the Cathedral of Mandalay and lecturer in philosophy at Saint Joseph’s Major Seminary in Pyin Oo Lwin.

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Madison, United States of America, H.E. Msgr. Donald J. Hying, currently bishop of Gary.
The bishop-elect was born in 1963 in West Allis, diocese of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He carried out his ecclesiastical studies at Marquette University, Milwaukee, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in theology, philosophy and history (1985), and at the Saint Francis de Sales Seminary in Milwaukee, where he obtained a Master of Divinity in theology (1989). He subsequently completed courses for a doctorate in ministry at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, Illinois.
He was ordained a priest for the archdiocese of Milwaukee on 20 May 1989. Since ordination he has served in a number of pastora roles, including member of the team of the La Sagrada Familia Parroquia in the Dominican Republic, administrator of the Saint Peter Parish in East Troy, parish priest of Our Lady of Hope Parish in Milwaukee, dean of formation and rector of the Saint Francis de Sales Seminary in Milwaukee, and administrator of the Saint Augustine Parish in Milwaukee. He was appointed as titular bishop of Regie and auxiliary of Milwaukee on 26 May 2011, receiving episcopal consecration the following 20 July.
He was appointed as bishop of Gary, Indiana on 24 November 2014. Within the Episcopal Conference he is a member of the Committee on the Protection of Children and Young People, the Committee on Catholic Education and the Subcommittee to Aid the Church in Central and Eastern Europe.
