Appointment of bishop of Butuan, Philippines

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Butuan, Philippines, the Rev. Cosme R. Almedilla, currently parish priest of the Child Jesus parish in Ubay.

The bishop-elect was born in Capayas in 1959 and was ordained a priest in 1987. During his pastoral ministry he has held a number of offices, including parish vicar, director of the John XXII Seminary of Malaybalay City, parish priest of various parishes and chaplain of the Alabang Hospital in Parang. He is currently pastoral director of the diocese of Talibon and, since 2017, pastor of the Child Jesus parish in Ubay.

 

Appointment of bishop-prelate of the prelature of Isabela, Philippines

The Pope has appointed as bishop-prelate of the prelature of Isabela, Philippines, the Rev. Fr. Leo M. Dalmao, C.M.F., of the Congregation of the Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, currently advisor and prefect general for formation in the General Curia of his order in Rome.

The bishop-elect was born in Tagbilaran in 1969 and was ordained a priest in 1997. He has held various ministries linked to his order, such as project coordinator, local superior, master of novices and provincial superior of the Philippine province of the Claretian Missionaries, and as co-president of the Major Superiors religious of the Philippines (AMRSP). Since 2015 he has served as advisor and prefect general of formation in the General Curia of his congregation in Rome.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Koudougou, Burkina Faso

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Koudougou, Burkina Faso, the Rev. Alexandre Yikyi Bazié, currently vicar general, assigning him the titular see of Gummi in Byzacena.

The bishop-elect was born in 1969 in Ténado and was ordained a priest in 1987. He holds a doctorate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Urban University of Rome. He has held a number of roles in his pastoral ministry, including parish vicar, national chaplain for the Scouts, professor and rector of the Saint Peter Claver interdiocesan seminary in Koumi, administrator and parish vicar, and diocesan head of youth pastoral in St. Flour, France. He is currently vicar general of Koudougou, Burkina Faso.
