Resignation of bishop of Columbus, U.S.A., and appointment of successor
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the diocese of Columbus, United States of America, presented by H.E. Msgr. Frederick F. Campbell.
The Pope has appointed as bishop of Columbus, United States of America, H.E. Msgr. Robert J. Brennan, currently titular bishop of Erdonia and auxiliary of Rockville Centre.
H.E. Msgr. Robert J. Brennan
H.E. Msgr. Robert J. Brennan was born on 7 June 1962 in the Bronx area of New York City, in the archdiocese of the same name. After attending the Our Lady of Perpetual Help elementary school and the Saint John the Baptist high school in West Islip (New York), he obtained a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and computer science from Saint John’s University in Queens (New York). He subsequently carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the Immaculate Conception seminary in Huntington, New York.
He was ordained a priest on 27 May 1989 for the diocese of Rockville Centre.
Since priestly ordination he has held the following offices: parish vicar of the Saint Patrick parish in Smithtown (1989-1994); special secretary of the three bishops of Rockville Centre (1994-2002); vicar general and moderator of the Curia (2002-2019) and parish priest of the Saint Mary of the Isle parish in Long Beach (2010-2012).
In 1996 he was named Chaplain of His Holiness and, in 2002, Prelate of Honour.
He was appointed as titular bishop of Erdonia and auxiliary of Rockville Centre on 8 June 2012, and received episcopal consecration the following 25 July. As auxiliary of Rockville Centre he was continued to serve as vicar general and moderator of the Curia.
