Merging of the dioceses of Hearst and Moosonee, Canada, in the single circumscription of Hearst-Moosonee, and appointment of first bishop

The Holy Father has provided for the merging of the dioceses of Hearst and Moosonee, Canada, in a single circumscription, named Hearst-Moosonee, and belonging to the ecclesiastical province of Ottawa.

The Pope has appointed H.E. Msgr. Robert O. Bourgon, currently bishop of Hearst and apostolic administrator of Moosonee, as bishop of the new circumscription.

 

Appointment of archbishop of Nagpur, India

The Holy Father has appointed as archbishop of Nagpur, India, H.E. Msgr. Elias Joseph Gonsalves, currently bishop of Amravati.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishops of the archdiocese of Kraków, Poland

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishops of the archdiocese of Kraków, Poland:

- H.E. Msgr. Franciszek Ślusarczyk, of the clergy of the same archdiocese, currently rector of the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Kraków- Łagiewniki, assigning him the titular see of Cillio; and

- H.E. Msgr. Janusz Mastalski, of the clergy of the same archdiocese, currently rector of the Major Seminary, assigning him the titular see of Noba.

 

H.E. Msgr. Franciszek Ślusarczyk

H.E. Msgr. Franciszek Ślusarczyk was born on 26 July 1958 in Dobczyce, archdiocese of Kraków. He was ordained a priest on 20 May 1984 for the same archdiocese.

Since priestly ordination he has held the following offices: parish vicar in Żywiec-Zabłocie (\984-1988); parish vicar in Wieliczka (1988-1989); prefect of discipline in the major seminary of Kraków (1990-1997); vice-rector of the same seminary (1997-2002); and vice rector for pastoral matters of the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Kraków- Łagiewniki (2002-2014). Since 2014 he has served as rector of the church and custodian of the same Shrine. In 2016, on the occasion of the Jubilee, he was appointed by the Holy Father Francis as Missionary of Divine Mercy.

In addition, in 1997 he obtained a doctorate in theology with specialization in homiletics, and is adjunct professor at the Pontifical Theological Academy of Kraków.

He is currently member and secretary of the presbyteral council. He knows German and English.

 

H.E. Msgr. Janusz Mastalski

H.E. Msgr. Janusz Mastalski was born on 4 May 1964 in Kraków. He was ordained a priest on 21 May 1989 in the same archdiocese.

Since priestly ordination he has held the following offices: parish vicar in Gdów (1989-1991); parish vicar in the parish of Saint Stephen in Kraków (1991-1994); rector of the university pastoral church of Saint Mark in Kraków (1997-2000).

In 1998 he obtained a doctorate and in 2003 a qualification for teaching in catechetics. In 2009 he became professor of theological sciences with specialization in practical theology. Since 1998 he has been a lecturer at the Pontifical Theological Academy, currently the Pontifical “John Paul II” University in Kraków. In the years 2008 to 2014 he was dean of the faculty of social sciences of the same university and in the years 2014 to 2018, pro-rector for didactic issues. Since 2017 Msgr. Mastalski served as rector of the major seminary of Kraków, maintaining the role of professor at the Pontifical “John Paul II” University.

He knows Italian and English.
